STUDENTS

The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association provides various programs and opportunities for students of different education levels, from high school through law school. Here is a summary of what we offer

High School Students

  • We offer the 3Rs: Rights, Responsibilities, Realities Program to help high school students better understand the U.S. Constitution and our justice system. Hundreds of volunteers from the legal community – lawyers, judges, paralegals and law students – visit high school students in their U.S. Government classes in the Cleveland Metropolitan and East Cleveland City Schools each year to help students better understand the U.S. Constitution and our justice system.
  • The Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Legal Adventure is a one week immersive for rising 10th-12th graders at schools throughout Cuyahoga County. Students spend five, five-hour days on sharpening their leadership and advocacy skills, attend simulated law school classes, panel discussions, and law school visits.
  • The Ohio Mock Trial Competition and the Cleveland Mock Trial Competition provide opportunities for high school students to learn more about the law by roleplaying attorneys, witnesses, and experts in a courtroom trial scenario. Students gain valuable experience in public speaking, critical thinking, analytical skills, poise, and the ability to think on their feet.

College Students

  • We offer the Louis Stokes Scholars Program, a workforce development initiative, for college students interested in pursuing careers in law to engage in an 8 week, paid summer legal internship. Other benefits include mentors, networking, field trips, workshops, and professional development.
  • The LSAT Prep Scholarship Program provides scholarships to aspiring law students for a top-level LSAT preparation course. In partnership with Kaplan, the program provides access to live and on-demand instruction, materials and practice tests, and one-on-one tutoring sessions.

Law School Students

  • We offer free membership in the CMBA to law students to expand their knowledge and network.
  • Law school students can join sections and committees, participate in CLE programs and social events, and take advantage of volunteer opportunities to build their skills and connections in the legal community.
  • Law students can gain practical skills and real-world experience, access job boards, clerkship opportunities, and personalized programming focused on helping them land their first lawyer job.
  • The CMBA offers various fun events for law students, from movie nights to networking receptions.
  • The 1L Clerkship Program offers a paid summer associate position to first year law students. Students are placed at law firms, legal departments, courts, or legal nonprofits in Northeast Ohio. Students from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Don’t wait until you graduate to start engaging. Start building your network and taking advantage of our benefits today.
