Each year, International Women’s Day offers a chance to step outside the pace of daily practice and reflect on the experiences shaping the legal profession.
At the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, this has taken many forms over time, from full-scale summits to more interactive programs, but the purpose has remained consistent. The program creates space for honest conversation, shared perspective, and a deeper understanding of the challenges and progress defining the careers of women in law.
It is as much about connection as it is about content, bringing together a community that continues to learn from one another.
Our event has evolved into an intimate storytelling experience, grounded in a simple idea. Some of the most impactful lessons in leadership and professional growth come from lived experience, not lectures.
Using a PechaKucha-style format, women from across the legal community share personal stories about moments that shaped how they lead, navigate challenges, and define success in the profession.

International Women’s Day in 2026 brought the community together for an evening that felt both meaningful and memorable.
Held at The W Sports Bar, a women-founded space that reflected the spirit of the program, Off the Record welcomed attorneys from across the legal community to gather, listen, and connect. Around 60 attendees came together as a series of personal stories unfolded throughout the evening, each one adding to the shared experience in the room.
“The room came alive after each presentation. The applause and cheering made it clear people weren’t just listening, they were genuinely moved and inspired by what they heard.”

“This was my first International Women’s Day with CMBA, and I truly loved how much thought went into the event. The venue, a women‑owned sports bar, set the perfect tone, and the speakers were so well chosen. The whole atmosphere was electric, full of contagious energy from women lifting each other up. I walked away feeling empowered and inspired.”

“It was truly an honor to be part of the day. Being in a room filled with so many thoughtful, accomplished women reminded me how powerful it is when we support and learn from one another. I’m grateful I could contribute in a small way and look forward to continuing the conversation.”
